I am getting the error below when trying to sync through IMAP using Outlook. I have spent 2 weeks on the phone to my ISP (BT - UK ISP) and Microsoft to try and resolve this error. Reading various forums I can see that this seems to be down to the way Microsoft have implemented IMAP and various compatibility problems this causes with various ISPs. My version of Outlook is 14.0.7143.5000 (32 bit). From what I read, various posts suggest applying a hotfix but my questions is "How do I find out which hotfix is the best one to address all these IMAP issues"?

IMAP4rev1 Server logging out

Protocol: IMAP

Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com

Port: 993

Error Code: 0x800CCCDD

You shouldn't need a hotfix to work with yahoo accounts. I think all of the hotfixes for Outlook 2010 were released in later updates, so you should be ok if you have all updates installed.

Are there any sync issues? Look in the folder list (Ctrl+6) for the sync issues folder.

Does the error code include any text saying why it closed the connection?

I am having the same issue. I don't see a sync issues folder in my folder list. What else can I try?

Here is the error (very similar to previous post):

IMAP4rev1 Server logging out
Protocol: IMAP
Server: imap-ssl.mail.yahoo.com
Port: 993
Error Code: 0x800CCCDD

I am syncing my 2010 Outlook with Gmail IMAP. Any message that I return from my phone, never showed up on my computer in my Outlook SENT folder. It does show up in Gmail on the web and on my Android Gmail phone app in the sent folder, just not on my computer in Outlook. Everything else seems to be syncing. Oddly enough, there is an arrow that appears on the Outlook message that it was returned … but there is nothing in the SENT folder.

IN SHORT:

Sent messages written on the computer in Outlook ARE syncing to the phone.
Sent messages written on the phone are NOT syncing to Outlook on the computer.

I've checked all setting that I can locate and have not been able to resolve my issue.

The sync issues folder is in the folder list, not the mail list. You can use Ctrl+6 keyboard shortcut to view it.

The error code doesn't include a reason why it's closing the connection? It could be anything from an incorrect time to a bad network connection.

Just got another error:

Task '[MY WINDOWS LIVE EMAIL ADDRESS]' reported error (0x00040820) : 'Errors in background synchronization. In most cases, further information is available in a synchronization log in the Sync Issues folder.'

No new item in sync issues.

I'm experiencing the identical issue. I searched my entire computer and can't find the missing sent messages. I don't think it's a gmail issue, because I'm having the same problem with sbcglobal.net (AT&T).

As I mentioned somewhere in a different thread, the sent emails initially show up in the Sent folder with a file size of 0 KB. Within a second, they vanish, and I get the following error message:

Your IMAP server closed the connection.

IMAP4rev1 Server logging out
Protocol: IMAP
Server: imap-ssl.mail.yahoo.com
Port: 993
Error Code: 0x800CCCDD

those sync errors point to outlook.com sync, (using the outlook connector) not yahoo imap account. There should be a sync issues folder in the yahoo data store too.

Have you tried imap.mail.yahoo.com as the server name? This uses port 993/SSL. Oh. I have this on my instruction page -
imap-ssl.mail.yahoo.com, port 143 also works for the incoming server - try either the different server nameo r change the port to 143

I tried Port 143. It doesn't work. Using the different server name doesn't solve the problem. Sent items still vanish and same error message appears. How to I find the sync issues in the yahoo data store. When I do CTRL+6, the sync issues folder only shows up in my outlook.com folder structure.

What can I do about the outlook connector sync issues?

The outlook connector errors could be server issues - it says it can authenticate with the calendar server but we know the user/password is correct because it syncs mail folders.

This: 15:53:18 There was an error synchronizing your folder hierarchy. The network connection is unavailable or interrupted. Could mean there is a problem with the internet connection, especially since you have a similar error in imap. What antivirus do you use? Have you tried Safe mode?

To open Outlook in Safe mode: Close Outlook then hold Ctrl as you click on the Outlook icon. You'll get a message asking if you want to start in Safe mode. Click Ok.

Progress!: I started outlook in safe mode and sent myself a message. It showed up in the Sent folder, and all the messages I sent after 6 PM yesterday show up, too. Not sure why 6 PM.

I have been using Avast free antivirus for years.

The usual cause of problems in normal mode and working in Safe mode is addins. See if there is an Avast addin in Outlook (File, Options, Trust Center, Addins) - if so, disable it (running in normal mode).
[DOUBLEPOST=1425532255][/DOUBLEPOST]If not Avast - any other addins? Antivirus addins are the usual culprit, but it could be a different addin causing problems.

I disabled my antivirus and restarted outlook in regular mode. The items that returned to my Sent folder in safe mode are still there, but I immediately got the error about the IMAP server closing the connection. I sent myself another test message, and it vanished again, but all the older Sent messages stayed put.

What next?

I somehow deleted part of this thread. Sorry. I have no idea how to restore it.

I found the following add-ins in Outlook:

Should I simply delete the avast addin? Any others that look suspicious?

I unchecked the avast addin, restarted my computer, and still have the problem. As soon as I click on the Sent folder, I get the error message.

Another update: I shut down my computer again and started it up, and now all my Sent emails are in the Sent Items folder of my outlook.com folder! I don't even sync the email of that account. my sbcglobal email account is checked as the default email account in outlook. I only use the windows live account with outlook connector to sync my calendar and contacts. How can I correct this?

I just looked more closely, and strangely, my Sent Items folder for my windows live account (which is not set up for email in Outlook) contains a random sample of emails I sent from my sbcglobal account, both using Outlook on my laptop and through my phone, some from today, and others going back over a year. I can't discern a pattern as to which ones are included and which ones aren't. This is very odd.
