I have 5 address books that I need to update with hundreds of the same
contacts in Outlook 2007. Can I update them all at the same time?

Outlook doesn't use "address books". What do you mean?

In addition to Gordon's reply - you may also wish to provide some more
details like what exactly you mean by "updating same contacts". Do you mean
that you want to <add> the exact same contacts (ergo - creating duplicates)
to multiple contact folders or you want to <update> pre-existing duplicate
contacts with new information in multiple contact folders. World of
difference between the two. In the latter case, would also be relevant to
mention whether or not this involves standard fields or user-defined fields.
What's the <source> of these updates? (i.e. an external file, another
contact folder, manual entry). Finally- what's the source of the 5 contact
folders that are in your addressbook (PST based, in Exchange Mailbox, or
Exch Public Folders)

Someone might also ask "Why would you want to maintain hundred's of
duplicate contacts across multiple folders?" - there might be a simpler
solution to whatever it is that you are doing/want to do.

Um, Microsoft doesn't seem to agree:

Actually.........confusion comes from MS itself using the term <AddressBook>
and <AddressList> interchangably when in reality - from a <technical>
perspective - an AddressBook and an AddressList are <not> one and the same.
The specific confusion comes from within Outlook itself which uses "Show
this folder as an e-mail Address Book" and "Name of this Address Book" (the
term Address Book in both these cases is technically a misnomer) when
wanting to add a contact folder to the actual Outlook Address Book. When
adding a contact folder to the Address Book - the contact folder becomes an
AddressList member of the OAB.

Outlook uses a <single> AddressBook which is a collection of
<AddressLists> - You can only add/have one <standard> Outlook Address Book
in a given profile (to verify --> Tools menu --> Account Settings -->
Address Books --> try adding an Outlook Address Book twice)

Getting back to the original question posted - contacts are not added to the
AddressList - contacts are added to a contact folder which <may be>
designated as an AddressList in the Outlook Address Book and in this
particular case - the question apparently involves adding to (or updating
the same contacts in) multiple contact folders at the same time (all of
which, no doubt, have already been added to the OAB based on the question).

The Outlook Address book, if you read that page, is a view of the CONTACTS
folder....
