Get rid of scanning emails...

Hello Bruce:... (yes I'm still here) :D

I've come across a forum
(http://www.eggheadcafe.com/conversation.aspx?messageid=30652263&threadid=30652262)
where you gave this advice to help get rid of scanning OE both ways:

>In the case of Avast, choose Custom Installation and under Resident
>Protection, uncheck: Internet Mail and Outlook/Exchange.

I wanted to do it but I didn't find those 2 items under Resident Protection
in avast! (I looked around too but no luck) probably because that advice is
from 2007.

But now 2 years later, is there a simpler way to do that instead of having
to uninstall and re-install?

Thank you very much! Adela

I would prefer to see you uninstall and reinstall. It only takes a few
minutes since you are saving your downloads and don't have to visit the
Avast site again. (Well, you /said/ you were doing to save your downloads).
<eg>

However, if you click on the round Avast icon in the SysTray, do you see
Internet Mail and Outlook/Exchange at the left? (I can't test since I didn't
install them). If you do, click on each and then click the Terminate button.

Yes, I am saving downloads in My Docs though I haven't been downloading
anything lately... lol! I was going to uninstall/reinstall but since you
so kindly gave me a simpler alternative I did that and will report back
after I see how it behaves. If it doesn't work I'll follow your first
suggestion.

Thanks so much!!! Adela

P.S. Shhh...I've canceled the order of that high power computer. My young
techi said to continue backing up weekly and whenever I'm ready or the
machine dies...he'll guide me to get a tower according to my needs (all my
peripherals are good so far).)

Hi again Bruce, you were right that just trying to stop avast wouldn't work,
so I uninstalled it. I'm now ready to reinstall it but could you tell me at
which stage I can make it omit scanning my messages please?

Thank you! Adela

Do a Custom Installation and under Resident Protection, uncheck: Internet
Mail and Outlook/Exchange.
