I have a computer trying to set up an out of office reply. We have created a

rule, but it won't seem to work. I applied the rule but as soon as the first

message comes in, the rule shuts off and I get a "Rules in Error" that says

"Cannot Reply to Message". This happened earlier this year on another

computer. I fixed the problem by uninstalling the update KB969907. I tried

to do the same on this computer, but the update is not installed on it. What

can i do to fix this problem?

Fixing outlook 2007 auto-reply problem

SP 2 broke Outlook 2007 on this. There's a klunky workaround.

1. Do everything MS tells you to do, including making sure it's in text.

2. Move everything from you inbox to another temporary folder.

3. Send yourself a message. You'll get the pop-up saying it sould not reply.

4. Close outlook.

5. Reopen outlook. You should still have the message you sent yourself there.

6. Open rules again, recheck the box for your auto reply rule. Choose "run rule now" and on the dialog box, check your autoreply rule.

7. It will work! And from now on (once it's run once) it will work, BUT ONLY AS LONG AS OUTLOOK STAYS ON. If you close outlook (or get an update that reboots your computer) the rule won't work any more. And you'll have to go through steps 2-6 again.

8. The reason I had you transfer everything from your inbox in step 2 is because when you run rule now, it will send your autoreply to every message in the inbox. After you've run the rule manually, you can move the messages back from their temporary home into the Inbox.

I work at MS Outlook every day. To my mind I know this tool quite well.

But one day before yesterday I was astonished, because of all my emails

had been lost. I didn't know what to do next. By sheer chance a friend

called me up and advised - 'outlook 2003 cannot view my sent items

folder' (http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/outlook_2003_viewer.html). It

turned out the utility was very good and resolved my issue for a minutes

and without money. Moreover the software helped my brother too. He

thanked me a lot.
