I installed Office 2010 on an XP system, leaving Office 2007 on the system.

When Word 2007 would run, it would disable Outlook 2010. Uninstalling Office

2010 left Outlook 2007 unusable (too many changes). How can I recover from

this situation?

Start by running Microsoft Office Diagnostics.

Did you reinstall office 2007?

PS - if you want to try office 2010 and keep the old version, use the C2R

build.

Re: Restoring Outlook 2007 after uninstalling Office 2010 Beta - H

I didn't fully reinstall Office 2007, but I did do a Repair from the

installation CD. Everything appeared to be there after the 2010 uninstall,

and Word, etc, worked OK, but the files Outlook were too altered by 2010. I

am going to see if I have a Restore Point before the 2010 install - I didn't

check last night.

Restore point might fix it- or you can try using fixmapi - problems with

mapi is the usual cause of problems.

Also, make a new profile - support files used by 2010 may cause issues in

2007.

Re: Restoring Outlook 2007 after uninstalling Office 2010 Beta - H

I seem to recall some error message about mapi32.dll being a problem, so

fixmapi may be of help. Where do I find this utility?

My biggest problem is that I didn't back up the PST files before the 2010

installation, and I don't know if I can get these back. Just stupidity on my

part. I wish I would have know about www.outlook-tips.net a few days ago!

Thanks for the help.

Re: Restoring Outlook 2007 after uninstalling Office 2010 Beta - H

The PST file *should* be OK between the two versions - for the most part. It

will only have problems under very specific conditions. (See a post by Brian

Tillman on problems he experienced syncing with a shared pst).

On my machine, fixmapi is at C:\Windows\System32

Re: Restoring Outlook 2007 after uninstalling Office 2010 Beta - H

I got Outlook 2007 basically working (through reinstallation and fixmapi),

but I've been getting the Microsoft Office Outlook message "Either there is

no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the

messaging request. Please run Microsoft Office Outlook and set it as the

default mail client." I think I have done this - on the Options Other Tab

under General I have checked "Make Outlook the default program for E-mail,

Contacts, and Calendar". I'm not sure what else to do.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Restoring Outlook 2007 after uninstalling Office 2010 Beta - H

A complete reinstallation of Outlook 2007 took care of the problem. I

rebuilt the profile and got all accounts working fine. The PST file was fine

- I was really worried about this. Thanks for the help.
