For some reason, deleted messages from my inbox, read and unread, keep

showing back up as new messages even after I delete them. Any idea why this

is happening?

thanks for all the info you have given us? check your e-mail settings, when

you delete e-mail, are they being deleted from the server of whoever you

use?

I contacted Comcast and apparently they are "working on the problem" Their

solutions? Manually delete the emails (?!?) That's the problem! I delete

them and they keep reappearing! or... wait 48 to 72 hours for the emails

to delete by themselves. You gotta love customer support!

you are the problem, not comcast, log into you account, go to your e-mail,

click preferences, find your settings, you will see if you look, there are

settings for the times of deletion! and or delete>go to trash and delete

again!

good luck!

ps i use comcast and have no problem

Did you ever get a solution for this? I have a user that is experiencing the same problem intermittently. She will call and say 200 of her previously deleted emails have come back to her inbox as unread. It happens about every 3 months for her. Thanks!

She has an Exchange account? The problem may not caused by the same issue, since we don't know if the person has a comcast business account (exchange) or personal account (pop3). Because the problem is so intermittent, its going to tough to track down. :(

When it happens, are they recently deleted messages or older ones? Is she emptying the deleted items folder regularly?

What antivirus scanner do you use on the mail server? with only one person affected its probably not the scanner, but if many users have the problem you would need to look at what is running on the server.

We run a MS Exchange 2007 Server with McAfee ePo server for antivirus. On her computer she is running XP and Outlook 2007. She has had this problem for a few years now. During that time we have upgraded our exchange server and swapped out her computer a couple of times. She does empty her deleted folder daily. Then every now and then she will have an inbox four times the size of what she had the day before. She will scroll through the messages and many of them are messages that she has already read and deleted. I thought they were coming back to her inbox as unread, but that is wrong, they are coming back to the inbox as read.

I have checked all server settings with her exchange account and locally on her computer too. I also checked her archive settings to insure she wasn't archiving them back and she doesn't have any rules on her computer.

Very mysterious.

Yeah, its definitely mysterious. It's going to be hard to troubleshoot - you'll probably discover the cause by accident. :)
