Hi all,

We have two exchange 2003 frontend servers (public IP); will it be better to
set up two MX records with equal preferences (ex: 5) than two different
preferences (5 and 10)?
If two MX records with same preference, will it load balance each other
(mails will randomly be accepted by each server)?

Thank you.

If your intention is that both servers should share the workload then
use an equal weight.

Which MX record will be selected depends on the way your DNS is
configured. If it's set to use a "round robin" method then the 1st MX
in the returned list will select a different resource record for each
query. It's not load-balancing, though.
