Hi. I'm trying to import messages stored in a .pst file into Outlook
(version 9.0.0.2711) with OS W2K. The file was created in Outlook under
Windows XP. No error messages appear. The copying barometer comes up and it
looks as if the messages are being imported. The problem is that I can't
find them anywhere.

What's going on?

They should be important in your main mailbox unless you've specified it to
do otherwise. Do folder sizes indicate messages have been imported?

You really should update your version of Outlook with Service Pack 3 and
additional updates; you are running a completely unpatched version now.

For next time, don't export or import anything but simply copy over your
original pst-file to a folder which is convenient to you.
For instance; (My) Documents\Outlook

Then reconnect the pst-file via;
File-> Open-> Personal Data File...

For step-by-step details see;

Thanks a lot for your reply.

I've managed to import them. My problem now is to export them again, now in
a format I can use to import them into one of my laptops. One has OS Vista
and Windows Mail, the other has Windows 7 with Windows Live Mail. I have
Microsoft Office 97 which has Outlook on it. Will Outlook install on either
of the Laptops without glitches? I only need to get the messages long enough
to import them into a modern Mail program.

Outlook 97 is not compatible with either Vista or Win7
Setup Outlook Express on your current sys, export msgs to OE then copy your
OE Identity to the other PC's and import into WM / LM
Or install an Office Trial on your other sys (that includes Outlook)
configure Outlook, copy your Outlook data file to Documents folder on the
other PC, open the data file within OL, set this data file as default, close
the unused data file. Within WM import 'exchange'

To reiterate: don not import messages from a PST or export them to a PST.
There's no need and you will lose data.
