If I double-click an email contain a hyperlink from my Inbox and click a
hyperlink, the web page is properly displayed.

However, when I click on the same hyperlink from the Preview Pane the
hyperlink does not connect me to the web page.

Any ideas?

See if the problem persists in a new named identity. If that does not
help, continue with this.

Hyperlinks do not work in Outlook Express after you upgrade to IE7 [and/or

If still no joy:

If nothing happens when you click a link:
Open Windows Explorer, or the Control Panel.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to [NONE] URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (NOT URL:Internet
Shortcut) and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome (Check the path
to
iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

If all the above is correct, uncheck: Use DDE.

The problem I reported launching IE8 using a hyperlink in the body of email
displayed in the OE Preview Pane seems to have subsided ... or even gone
away. It was very intermittent yesterday. Now today I cannot get it to fail
after repeated attempts.

While I have not been able to find a solution, I have been able to identify
the problem a little better.

FYI, many hyperlinks in the body of my emails do launch IE8 correctly on my
laptop running WinXP Home SP3.

Although there are others that seem to fail somewhat intermittently.

For example, sometimes the link below works and sometimes it fails.

When it fails I can see in the "Processes" tab of Task Manager that
iexplore.exe was launched. But an IE window does not appear. I added a new
OE Identity and could not reproduce the problem there.

Back to the Main Identity (with 100+ folders). I've gone into OE and run
"Compact All Folders". I have also run "Disk Cleanup" and "Microsoft Fix
It" from the link Bruce Hagen suggested (
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823301 ).

As I stated earlier, so far so good today ... no hyperlink failures.
