Whenever I try to install Outlook Social Connector for LinkedIn (LinkedInOutlookConnector.exe) it runs until it hits a modal dialog (Here is the CTRL-C from the dialog):

-------------------------LinkedIn Outlook Connector Setup
-------------------------Please click OK to install the Microsoft Outlook Social Connector before continuing. This installation step is required to enable the LinkedIn Outlook Connector.
-------------------------OK Cancel

-------------------------

Pressing OK results in the website (Outlook Social Connector 32 bit (February 2010 Beta) ) coming up. When I attempt to install that it states:

Installation of Microsoft Outlook Social Connector requires Microsoft Office Outlook version 2003 or Microsoft Office Outlook version 2007.

I am running the 64 bit version of 2010. How can I get this installed?

advTHANKSance

If i recall correctly, there is not an update for the 64bit build - you need to use the one included in the beta until you upgrade to RTM. The social providers require the newer social connector.

Is there a reason you are using the 64bit build? If you don't need large file support in Excel and Access, you should use the 32bit version of office.

I will be developing against Office 2010 using VSTO (Visual Studio for Tools for Office) to create managed add-ins. I shall wait for a 64 bit version of this plugin when it is built.William Wegerson (www.OmegaCoder.Com)

Outlook Social connector (OSC) 32-bit is not compatible with the Outlook 2010 64-bit. Please check the "System Requirement" section in the below link which explain more about the same.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c87e257c-d76f-4785-a09b-af36babd6e32&displaylang=en

You also check the below link which explains the working of OSC. Check the "NOTE" section which explains
the same.

I get that 32bit code doesn't run with 64 bit. But that is not the ultimate answer to this problem.

Why is this addin only 32bit? Office 2010's selling feature is that it does work with 64 bit OS's. Most computers sold these days have Win 7 64 bit installed. The user base is only growing.

I don't feel that this issue is solved.

Sudharsan V...please don't mark posts as answered. Let the OP do that. Frankly I consider a reply with a link to a 64 bit version of the addin the right answer. Also Diane is a moderator..why are you stomping on her post...she is perfectly able to mark the post as answered and to that end she did not.IMHO

The social connector itself works in 64bit - its included with Outlook 2010 64bit for petes sake. (The download version is for 32bit only, because outlook 2003/2007 is 32 bit only)

But the 3rd party providers may not work with 64bit- like all addins, they need to be compiled in 64bit. According to a post in the TechNet forums, the linkedin provider does not work in 64bit.

Hi Diane, thank you for following up on this.

I posted to the link you gave to follow it on the Technet side. As I voiced on that post, I find it hard to understand being a C# Office developer on why LinkedIn is pulling in a 32bit assembly/dll when they could have developed a managed addin which would have been agnostic to which bit flavor of office is being used. IMHO - poor office development; of course I don't know their side, but find it interesting that they need did that...

Yes, and to date they still don't have a 64-bit version of the LinkedIn connector. Facebook has one, LinkedIn doesn't.
