Bug Report: Outlook 2010 first-run hangs due to "Microsoft Update" dialog box

On Windows 7 (64-bit), I upgraded Office 2007 to Office 2010 Professional Plus (32-bit). Installation went fine, but upon first launch of Outlook 2010, I was given a dialog window prompting me to enable automatic updates (in the past I had Windows Update set to check for updates but not download or install them). I think I accepted the default (to install them automatically), upon which this screen was shown:

The " Microsoft Update" dialog box then spun for over 24 hours before I gave up and killed Outlook via the task manager. I then relaunched it and everything seemed fine.

Glad to know that you were able to fix the issue. The best practice to upgrade to a newer version of Outlook is to uninstall the older version first and then install the newer one, it'll eliminate several conflicts.
