All,

I am currently running Ex2k7 SP1 under windows 2008 and wish to upgrade to Ex2k10 and finally decomisson the Ex2k7 server. I have installed another Win2k8 server but I am a little confused in how to install Ex2k10 and move the mailboxes across? I also would like to keep the same organization name.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks

Check this article on how to install Exchange 2010 in an existing Exchange 2007 organization: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124350.aspx Elie B. MCITP: EMEA|EA|SA Blog: http://blog.elieb.info

Hello,

Thanks for the info, this article talks about Ex2k10 in coexistence mode with my Ex2k7 server. Once I have moved all my folders and mailboxes over what would be the best way to decomission the Ex2k7 server? simply shut of down or uninstall Ex2k7?

Hi,

First please ensure that the verison of exchange server is 2007 with sp2.

Then please install Exchange 2010 in the exsiting environment.

Please carefully read the following article to understand how exchange 2010 coexists with Exchange 2007

hi,

Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) and/or Exchange Server 2007 SP2 are required

SP2 is required on all CAS 2007 and UM 2007 servers in the organization prior to Exchange Server 2010 introduction

SP2 is required on all Exchange Server 2007 servers in an AD DS site prior to Exchange Server 2010 introduction

Upgrade Internet facing sites first

Upgrade existing servers to SP2

Deploy Exchange Server 2010 servers

CAS first; MBX last

• Start with a few

• Gradually add more servers as you move mailboxes

Legacy" hostname for old FE/CAS

• SSL cert purchase

• End Users don"t see this hostname

• Used when Autodiscover and redirection from CAS2010 tell clients to talk to FExchange Server 2003/CAS2007 for MBX2003/MBX2007 access

Move

• Internet hostnames to CAS2010

• UM phone number to UM2010

• SMTP end point to HUB2010

Move Mailboxes

Decommission old servers

Upgrade Internal sites second

All,

Thanks for the information, so far I have managed to install Ex2k10 in coexistence mode and moved the mailboxes from Ex2k7 to Exk2k10. I have connected Outlook 2007 to the new Ex2k10 server and all seems fine i.e. mail is coming in and go out.

So what I tried next was to shutdown my Ex2k7 server and re-programe my router to direct traffic i.e. SMTP etc.. to the new Ex2k10 server. After some testing i discovered I am able to send email externally but cant receive email. For example I was able to send a email from Outlook to a hotmail account but when I tried to reply to the email from hotmail it bounced back any ideas?

Also when I run the Exchange Best Practice Analyzer I get the following error:

Active Directory Domain 'xxxx' has an unrecongnized signture: Current DomainPrep version: 12638

Hi,

Do you have NDR? Please post the detail NDR here.
Please try to create a new profile and then test the issue again.

Besides, what role that you have installed on Exchange Server 2010? What role for Exchange 2007 has been installed?

Please note that due to the changes made to the Exchange Server Object (XSO) model in Exchange 2010, Exchange 2010 Hub Transport servers can't pick up messages from and deliver messages to Exchange 2007 Mailbox servers. Similarly Exchange 2007 Hub Transport servers can't communicate with Exchange 2010 Mailbox servers. we need to maintain Exchange 2007 Hub Transport servers in a specific Active Directory site until all Exchange 2007 Mailbox servers are removed from that site.

Upgrade from Exchange 2007 Transport
