Hi,

Can anyone enlightened me why a particular group of public folders we have always have such an issue? A few times a week, it gets corrupted with "Some permissions could not be displayed. The client operation failed." message.

The remedy is to use PFDAVAdmin to fix/restore the permissions.

There are a few suspicion i have,

1) Public folder sub folder depth limitations.. this set of PF has very deep sub folders, and some are mail-enabled by themselves
2) User problem.. there is only 1 admin managing this group of folders, and we don't if he is doing it right.

Actually i just want to know what actually causes this error.

Issue description: Error periodic occurs when accessing a particular group of public folders

Error info: “Some permissions could not be displayed. The client operation failed”

Check info:

1.      Please describe the exchange topology, version and especially about the public folder

2.      Does the symptom occur on all users? Whether symptom occurs when accessing these public folders via OWA?

3.      You said “a particular group of public folders we have always have such an issue”, which kind of the same situations do these public folders all share with?

4.      You said “use PFDAVAdmin to fix/restore the permissions”? Do you mean by fixing the DACL status?

5.      Please describe how users will trigger this error, when they click on the “Permissions” tab of public folder in the outlook or else?

6.      Are there any error/ warning in the public folder server after reproducing the issue?

Troubleshooting:

1.      What's error info when accessing the permissions of problematic public folders via ESM (Exchange 2003)/EMC (Exchange 2007)?

2.      Please try to use method 2 in the KB 327168 on one of the problematic public folders

3.      Please still use PFDAVadmin, right-click on one problematic public folder, remove Item-Level permissions and propagate, dismount/mount the public folder store, and then check the result

1.       Exchange 2007 SP1, All Exchange 2007 no mixture. 3 hub/cas on NLB, 2 mailbox on SCC

2.       Only to PF assigned and managed by users from a branch office in Thailand

3.       Managed by the same admin (Owner rights)

4.       Yes fixing the DACL status restores the permissions

5.       Yes when the admin click on the “Permissions” tab of public folder in the outlook, he will see the error message. The permissions box will be empty. But user access still runs fine.

6.       No

Hi All,

Any updates on this issue? This is because we also got the same error...

Additional information:
Now, fixing the DACL does not work anymore... PFDAVAdmin stated that the fix had been completed, but still not able to read the permission.

Cheers,
Harley
