Outlook 2003 not detecting cluster failover

I am currently testing a new Exchange 2007 SP1 (rollup 9) CCR cluster. Everything is working well, but we are having problems with Outlook 2003 (SP3) cached mode. We do not have Outlook 2007 available to test with at this time.

When we fail over the cluster (using whatever method), if the information store instance in the cluster is not offline when outlook 2003 checks it gets in a confused state. Outlook reports its online (and shows connected when using connection status), but no new mails arrive.

Pressing send and receive on the Outlook 2003 (SP3) then forces the connection, and if you try to send a mail you will get an NDR back (0x80004005-0x0004b9-0x000501) but will then receive all mails.

Activesync and OWA carry on working with no problems

We have the similar symptoms if we take the database resource offline in the cluster. Outlook keeps reporting its connected.

We had the same problem on a test cluster we created but assumed the problem was related to it running on Vmware, but now using physical servers and having same problems.

Another note for interest is that we are running Trend Micro Scan Mail for exchange.

Have searched extensively but not found anyone with similar symptoms. Can reproduce problem almost every time (but for some reason it not a problem the 1st time we do it in the morning) .

Anyone got ideas before i create a premium support call?

What is the connection state set in OL 2003? automatic or manual?

Automatic, with Exchange 2003 cluster it works fine

Also (back on the 200 CCR cluster), if you take the information store resource offline manually for a while, then outlook detects its offline and work fine after the IS is started again.
