Hi,

we use to give clients rigts to use public folders via OLK. We take Active directory groups and give these groups rigts on Exchange Public Folders. Later we use to make these groups invisible in the GAL.

We found out that Users whos mailbox is on exchange 2010 can't view the members of these groups if they view them in the righs tab in outlook (the groups themself are still viewable there). With users whose Mailbox is on Exchange 2003 we can see the members of groups which are invisble.

Is there a way to make the member of thes groups visible again?

Recipient Configuration > Distribution Group > Right Click DL > Properties > Advanced Tab > Set Expansion Server

Change to Exchange 2010 Hub Transport server. Apply the changes, give it some time for replication to take affect. Try it then and see if membership is now visible. I would try this on a test DL first if I were you so you can fully ascertain the impact from Ex2k3 and ex2010 users.

Please let me know if this helps. I'm making an educated guess this might help, but could be wrong. :p

Hi Triton.Deep. thanks for your Idea. But it made no difference. It seems to be a righs issue. As far as I remember - with Exchange 5.5 where had been a option like " dont display distribution Group members" .

Although we marked only the group to be invisible in the Global Addresslist Exchange seems to make the members invisible too.

So, before introduced exchange 2010 server in the environment, group members are visible after you hide the group itself from GAL; and now, group members won"t be visible after you hide the group itself from GAL for the users whose mailboxes belong to exchange 2010 server. Please correct me if I've misunderstood the issue

Quote: “Users whos mailbox is on exchange 2010 can't view the members of these groups if they view them in the righs tab in outlook”

This “righs tab”, do you mean the “Permissions” tab in the “Properties” of public folder, and the group members are invisible after you double-click the group in the “Permissions” tab? Exchange 2003 users can still see the group members?

Hi Mr. Luo,

the things you wrote down are exactly as I meant them.

With Rights Tab I meant " Permissions" tab - sorry but I have a non english exchange installation.

Quote: ... and the group members are invisible after you double-click the group in the “Permissions” tab? Other outlook users (Exchange 2003 mailboxes) can still see the group members?

The sentence above is true.

Does the error " Unable to connect to retrieve additional data" appear below the “Members” windows of the “General” tab after you double-click the group in the “Permission” tab of the public folder?

The following is the testing I did in the lab:

· Outlook 2010 RTM (Exchange 2010 mailbox), issue reproduced with error

· Outlook 2007 SP2 (Exchange 2010 mailbox), issue reproduced with error

· Outlook 2007 SP2 (Exchange 2003 mailbox), issue reproduced with error

· Outlook 2003 SP1 (Exchange 2010 mailbox), issue reproduced, but no error

· Outlook 2003 SP1 (Exchange 2003 mailbox), issue doesn"t appear

In my testing, the issue still occurs even the mailbox is on the exchange 2003, what"s the outlook client version that works normally?

Yes the error " Unable to connect to retrieve additional data" appears in Outlook 2010

Thank you for the indeep testing.

In our production we have:

- Outlook 2010 RTM (Exchange 2010 mailbox), issue reproduced with error

- Outlook 2010 RTM (Exchange 2003 mailbox), issue doesn"t appear
Outlook 2003 SP3 (Exchange 2010 mailbox), issue reproduced, but no error

- Outlook 2003 SP3 (Exchange 2003 mailbox), issue doesn"t appear

We use Outlook 2003 and 2010. We dont use Outlook 2007 (well maybe a few)

Hi testrrrr,

We have a similar issue, users with outlook 2010 clients are unable to expand some distribution lists. Additionally, for these troublesome DL's when viewing the contact card for the DL, it fails to show the 'members' and has the following error " unable to connect to retrieve additional data" .

Did you find a solution to your issue?
