1. When I try to use the Discovery Search Mailbox from the Exchange Control Panel (ECP) I get the following error:
“Unable to execute the task. Reason: The discovery mailbox, a hidden default mailbox that is required to search mailboxes, can't be found. It may have been inadvertently deleted. This mailbox must be re-created before you can search mailboxes”

2. When I try to execute the Search-Mailbox cmdlet using the Exchange Management Shell (EMS), I get the following error:

“The term 'Search-Mailbox' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program...”

If you refer to exchange team blog, it's new : You can use the Search-Mailbox cmdlet with the SearchDumpsterOnly switch (new in SP1),MT | MCITP ----- Please vote helpful or mark as answer if it's answered your question, this help us follow up the question status.

Fantastic!

Issue 1 was fixed with:
Setup.com /PrepareAD
Enable-Mailbox " SystemMailbox{e0dc1c29-89c3-4034-b678-e6c29d823ed9}" -Arbitration

Issue 2 was fixed by adding the account to the Discovery Management role.

Much appreciated.
