I am using Exhange 2010 and I can make a new PF, mail enable it for testing, and then mail disable the PF. Problem is the email address never goes out of the Address Book/GAL. I have waited a week and it is still there, I have turn off/on/off cached mode and it is still there.

Hi,

Are there any events logged in your event log about problems with the GAL. Try this to force an update of all address books:

get-addresslist|update-addresslist
get-globaladdresslist|update-globaladdresslist
get-offlineaddressbok|update-offlineaddressbook

Then wait a few minutes (depends on the size of the environment) and check if it's not there anymore. Another way to check if your client is not the problem login to OWA and check if the PF is not listed in the address book there.

Johan

get-addresslist|update-addresslist command produced a stream of errors about " Domai.com/Microsoft Exchange System Objects/PFname" is invalid and couldn't be updated. These were all PF's that were deleted weeks ago. None of the errors were about PFs stuck in the Address book.

get-globaladdresslist|update-globaladdresslist command produced that same errors plus some about several Dynamic Dictribution and Email Distribution groups.

the third command didn't produce any ouotput.

Ran OWA and found all the stuck PF address were also in that address book. Waited 10 minutes. Restarted Outlook. All " stuck" PFs are still in the Address Book!

Hi,

Yeah that's logical because it gave the warnings while running the command. The commands shouldn't give any error. Try to enable some extra logging to see what the real problem is:

- Open the EMC
- Expand server configuration
- Select Mailbox
- Select the mailbox server which is responsible for generating the address book
- In the right menu select the option manage diagnostic logging properties
- Expand the item MsExchangeSA and select the AOL Generator object
- Set the logging level to expert

Run the commands as mentioned before and check the event log for issues and post them here.

Regards,

Johan

Opps! I was onthe wrong server. Looking at the OAL server I get these two errors:

Event 9331, MSExchangeSA

OABGen encountered error 80004005 (internal ID 50101ee) accessing the public folder database while generating the offline address list for address list '/'.

- \Default Offline Address List

and

Event 9335, MSExchangeSA

OABGen encountered error 80004005 while cleaning the offline address list public folders under /o=ITSFAC/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs/cn=Default Offline Address List. Please make sure the public folder database is mounted and replicas exist of the offline address list folders. No offline address lists have been generated. Please check the event log for more information.

- \Default Offline Address List

This is really funny because if I create a new PF and Mail enable it the address shows up within a few minutes!

Hi,

It looks like some corruption in the Public Folder DB or did you migrate from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 a while ago ?

Johan

You hit the nail on the head!! We migrated from 2003 to 2010 about two months ago. Two weeks ago I removed the old Exchange from the environment.

Yes! Except step 5. When I tried that all the mailboxes lost connection to our BlackBerry server. Some accounts even stopped working all together! Had to put things back. According to this article the LegacyExchangeDN attribute can be changed - it can't!

I have already come to the conclusion that I must have removed somethign wrong. My problem is now how do I fix it.

Hi,

An isinteg on the PF database might fix the issue. Do you have Outlook 2003 clients in your network ?

Johan

Only Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 clients. Does that make a difference? Does isinteg work on PF DB the same as a MBX DB?

Hi,

Yes isinteg works the same as for MBX DB's

But since you only have Outlook 2007/2010 you won't need a PF anymore for your address book just use the EWS for it. Perform the following operations:

- open the EMC
- expand organizational configuration
- select the mailbox item
- select the offline address book tab
- get the properties of the default offline address book
- select the distribution tab
- remove the options: Outlook 98 SP2 or later and Outlook 2003 SP2 or later and disable the option enable public folder distribution
But if you still want to use the PF for the address book and this is the only reason why you are using PF's then I would recommend to backup the PF, delete it and create a new one.

Johan

I didn't know I could remove the PF!!! Ok, I'll try that next.

For the Default Offline Address List Properties it says " I must select one of the Client Support options, I left the Outlook 2003 SP2 or later. I was able to disable PF distribution. For the Web-based distribution - both of my CAS servers are selected, I assume that is correct.

I will " Update" and see how the AddressBook looks.

Thanks for the help! If I have problems removing and re-adding the PF I'll come back.

Thanks again.

Back up to my original problem. Even for PFs that I have deleted, they still show up in the Address Book! Any way to manually edit the address Book or GAL?

I have tried to force an Update and I have created a New OAB, even deleted the old one. Within Outlook the deleted PF address still show up. If I try to " Download" a new Address Book from the Send/Receive pulldown it completely hangs up Outlook! I even left it alone over night and it was still hung to the point I have to use the Task Manager to kill it.

Please browse the oab.xml via Internet Explorer, see if you can get the correct XML information in the webpage

IIS -> OAB virtual directory -> OAB -> OAB GUID -> browse “oab.xml” file (switch to “Content View”)

Please run the cmdlet below, and check the replica setting on the Oab2, OAB3a, Oab4 folders:

Get-PublicFolder -Identity “\NON_IPM_SUBTREE\OFFLINE ADDRESS BOOK” -Recurse | Fl Name,Replicas

Please check the “siteFolderServer” attribute, make sure it"s pointed to public database on the exchange 2010 server (Reference)

Please run ExBPA against the exchange servers for health check
