Suddenly without making any changes my PC will no longer send email thru Outlook 2010 using Windows XP. ISP is Verizon and I get the message " Your e-mail server rejected your login" My UID and PW are correct as I can log into webmail fine. Have spent 3 solid days with Verizon tech support who points the finger at MS, Norton who points to MS and MS would points back to Verizon. I'm frustrated beyond imagination! Verizon says MS Office 2010 probably doesn't work with XP and that's the problem. I loaded 2010 in July and it's been working great with NO problems until 3 days ago. Outlook will send yaho, hotmail just not a verizon email. I have unistalled Office 2010 and reinstalled - no change. Verizon wants me to reinstall the OS - is that necessary? I feel that a file has become become corrupted, but I don't know how to fix it. ANyone have any hints or ideas? This is insane - tech support for sw these days is a joke.

I would turn on transport logging in Outlook 2010 in order to troubleshoot the issue. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300479 describes how to do this for every version of Outlook.

Other than that, my gut tells me it might be Norton that is interfering especially if a feature of the product is to scan POP3 e-mail in real-time. The way they accomplish this is by acting as a middle man between Outlook and the mail server. I tend to recommend uninstalling the antivirus/antispam solution temporarily and then try using Outlook to see if operations return to normal. After this test, just reinstall the antivirus software and let it update.

You may start Outlook in Windowsclean boot mode and verify if you are able send/receive emails.

Note: Ensure to restart computer to normal mode once troubleshooting is completed.

Norton has already uninstalled their product and Outlook still doesn't send email. Had Norton reinstalled and still get the same result - so don't think Norton is the problem.

Have finished my 4 FULL day on the phone with MS tech - and they still can't figure this out. Anyone else have an idea?
