Hi All,

First of all I would like to know what backup solution do we use to backup the exchange 2010? I am not using any external tool. Instead I am using the NT backup(windows backup). Now, is NT backup good enough? Or do we need some other tools as well?

Also, how do we restore/recover a single mailbox? also which is the best wat to backup the whole exchange server?

Plz help me guys.....

Thanks in advance

depends how big is ur environment>?

1. do u have DAG setup? with windows 2008 r2, you can backup the passive copy of the db.

2. you can then restore that passive copy and use 'restore-mailbox' cmdlet to extract the data.

here are some links:

You cannot use Ntbackup on Exchange 2010. This is because NT backup is not included in Windows 2008 or 2008 R2 which are the only supported platforms for Exchange 2010.

You can use Windows Server Backup, however I"d recommend something like Microsoft"s SCDPM product, or Symantec"s NetBackup/BackupExec.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I do have a DAG setup. But have just 2 MB server in it. And I am using just the windows Server backup, no third party tool. Wanted to know if Windows server backup is effecient enough? And does it give u all the options(single mb restore, multiple mb restore...etc) that other tools provide? Coz my Org does not want any third party backup tool, just a little concerned if Windows server backup serves the purpose or not !!!!!!!!

Also a small query about DAG. If i have just 2 members in DAG, do i still need a witness server?

Thanks,

Sharath
