I am getting error code OX800CCC78 when I try to send and email in Outlook 2003. I get " server responded 550 5.1.0 authentication required" I have checked with my ISP & all of my settings are correct. I am trying to reinstall office 2003 (I have disc) but it won't let me because it is looking for an earlier version of office. I installed office 2003 on this machine when it was new when my old computer failed.

Try the steps mentioned below.

1. Open Outlook 2007, click on Tools > Account Settings.

2. Highlight the email account > Change > More settings > Outgoing server.

3. Check the box "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication". Verify if the option "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" is selected.

4. Click Apply and OK.

Now try sending emails and check if it helps.
