My error message reads "The operation failed due to an installation problem. Restart Outlook and try again. If the problem persists, please reinstall.

I just bumped my memory form 1 to 3 GB. When I started my computer I got a "MS closed a WMI file as it could harm your computer".

Any ideas?

Hi,

From your description , I understand that you got the error message “The operation failed due to an installation problem. Restart Outlook and try again. If the problem persists, please reinstall”

that bring about the result that Outlook will not open.

Try a new Outlook profile to test the results:

Test with a new Outlook profile

1. Exit Outlook.

2. Go to Start > Control Panel, click or double-click Mail.

3. Click Show Profiles. Choose Prompt for a profile to be used.

4. Click Add.

5. Type a name for the profile, and then click OK.

6. Start Outlook, and choose this new profile.

If this problem does not occur in the new Outlook profile, the old Outlook is corrupted. You can delete that and use a new Outlook profile.

In addition, you can refer to the KB article:

Error message when you try to use the Tools menu in Outlook: "The operation failed due to a registry or installation problem"

Sincerely,

Harry
