Outlook 2010 Free/Busy Data not updated\viewable - Exchange 2003 SP2

Has anyone run into issues with OL2010 not updating free\busy data properly against a EX2003 SP2 backend? Most of the time the data is accurate, however we have several users that occasionally notice that their free\busy information is not correct. Most of the time running /cleanfreebusy will fix the issue, but we have not been able to narrow down the cause.

We have reduced the number of free\busy folder replicas to 1 per admin group as advised by MS, but it did not help. We have turned on Outlook logging and done captures with Time Travel Tracing which did not help. It may be related to old recurring meetings that have one instance modified, but we have not confirmed this yet. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Update: The issue does seem to be related to old recurring meetings that were created with OL2003. Looking at the FB data with OL2010 some of these meetings are not visible. However, if you add user1 that is trying to view the FB data of user2 to user2's calendar as a reviewer, then the items appear normally. So at the moment the issue appears to be a rights problem with viewing FB data on old, recurring meetings after upgrading to OL2010.

From your description , I understand that your several users cannot got free\busy data information correctly.

First, I would like to confirm if there is an error about the free/busy data in Outlook 2010, such as " No free/busy information could be retrieved" .

If Outlook is running in the cached mode, please run it in the online mode to check the results again.

If the problem persists, try to refresh the free/busy information by running Outlook with the /CleanFreeBusy command-line switch on the computer that is experiencing problems publishing free/busy information.

To do this:


1. Click Start > Run.

2. In the Open box, type the command and press Enter: outlook.exe /cleanfreebusy

At the same time, you can also post this issue in the Exchange server forum to see if they have better idea:

We are not seeing an error message and there is data there. It is just that certain data is missing or not viewable in the FB. We do not run in cache mode - everyone is in online mode.

We have used the /cleanfreebusy on a few occasions, but it does not seem to be working for the users now. I believe when it did work we used it with the OL2003 client.
