Exchange 2007 Outlook Anywhere Clients unable to retrieve GAL

Hi,

We have a client where Exchange 2007 has been deployed on a Single Server with HT/CAS & MBX Roles.

CA is internal.

We are facing a very unusual problem where the Outlook Anywhere clients are unable to query or even for that matter open the GAL. The Outlook client is able to retrieve and send emails when connected via Outlook Anywhere but is unable to view the GAL.

Would appreciate if anyone has any thoughts on this. We have reconfigured Outlook Anywhere and the EWS but are still saddled with this problem.

Hi Ripu,

Thank you for your response. However my problem is not with the OAB but with the GAL. In this case I get the error mentioned in the link above when a user who connects via Outlook Anywhere clicks on " New Email" and clicks on the " To" button to open the corporate address book.

At this stage is when the error shows up.

everything on OWA works fine.

error message is " The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."

the strange thing is that users can send and retrieve their emails but cannot see the GAL from outlook anywhere.

Hi,

Which mode does the Outlook client with Outlook Anywhere run? Online Mode or Cached Mode? Since the GAL is fine in OWA, this indicates the GAL is working well in the GC.

Is it fine for the internal clients with outlook Anywhere? And press Ctrl+right click Outlook icon in System Tray, Is the Directory type Established? What image in that UI? You can post here.

Thanks

Allen

Hi Allen,

Outlook Clients both local and remote are in cached mode. When we connect internally, the type of established connection is TCP/IP. I forced an RPC connection where even for the LAN users connecting via HTTPS but that yields no results.

Hi,

Is this issue only occurring on the Outlook clients with Outlook Anywhere? Does the Outlook client have this issue without Outlook Anywhere?

Hi,

For the external clients with Outlook Anywhere, press Ctrl+right click Outlook icon in System Tray, select Connection Status, check whether the Status of the Directory is Established.

And start with Address Book, click Tools, select Options, check which address list is showing first.

Thanks

Allen
