Outlook 2007 Reminder Times Change When User Changes Time Zone in Date/Time

I again noticed on a recent trip to Europe that when I change the Time Zone in Date/Time in the Control Panel, the reminder times and sometimes the due dates of most items listed in Outlook 2007 Task or To-Do lists are changed adversely by the number of hours difference between the time zones. Thus, I'm obliged to review the entire Task/To-Do list to correct Reminder times and some due dates. The same unfortunate result occurs on any change of Time Zone. Is there a way to avoid this outcome or fix it in bulk?

Re: Outlook 2007 Reminder Times Change When User Changes Time Zone in Date/Tim

Reminders are set for xx minutes (hours or days) before the start of an appointment or task and appointment and task times are tied to UTC time, so when you change the time zone, the due time and reminder will change. That is all normal, as long as '15 min before start' continues to be 15 min before start...

There is a time zone mover tool that will move appointments when you change the time zone but you should only use it when you permanently move zones, not when you travel. Use Outlook's dual tome scale when you travel - and make the appointments for the correct time in the time zone they will be held in.

Maybe this behavior is "normal" but it's not desirable. My reminder times appear in an hour:minute format. When there's a time zone change involving 8 hours, both some due dates and most reminder times are changed. So I see the time zone tool in Calendar that I may use to avoid having to recheck/modify many task items. Or, maybe the solution is not to change the time zone in Date/Time and thus cause no change to due dates and reminder times.

Re: Outlook 2007 Reminder Times Change When User Changes Time Zone in Date/Tim

If you make an appointment for 8AM PT with a 15 min reminder and change the time zone to ET, the appointment changes to 11 AM. with the reminder at 10:45. That is normal. If you see anything else, its not normal.

If you don't want the times to change or the appointment is supposed to be for 8 AM et, use the time zone field to set it for 8 AM ET. Click the button labeled Time Zones to show the time zone selector.

You can also use the dual time zone tool - Tools, Options, Calendar options, time zones - to show 2 different time scales in the day and week calendar. You'll be able to see the appointments in both your home and current zone.

If you choose to not change the computer time zone when you travel, do not adjust the computer clock to local time - get a utility that will display the local time. See http://www.slipstick.com/calendar/timezone.asp for information and links to some utilties (there are many clock utilties & Win7 has the windows utility built in).

Re: Outlook 2007 Reminder Times Change When User Changes Time Zone in Date/Tim

I have a similar problem to davidhur (in Outlook 2010 however) which I don't think the answers that have kindly been provided manage to quite address fully....

I understand the points made about appointments, etc. in the calendar and they all work well for me (I travel regularly for work to other time zones). My problem, as davidhur mentions in his posts, is with Outlook tasks. I use tasks and set them to 9am for things I need to consider when planning out my workload for the day. When I travel to another time zone from London (Moscow, for example, which is 4 hours ahead) the reminders are now set to alert me at 1pm local time which is far from ideal.

Is there a good work-around for this? I suspect that if there is a utility which can review all items in Outlook's to-do list (both emails and tasks) and adjust the reminder times by -4 hours (as in the example quoted above) that my problem would be solved....??
