Using Windows XP Pro (SP3) and Office XP Pro (Outlook 2002)

My problem is that a "non-existent" bad email address replaces my client's correct email address in the transmission process whenever I send the client an email with its correct address and because of the "non-existent" bad email address, my email is returned with an error message. (the error message states that the error is "550" and that the correct email address is expanded to the incorrect or "non-existent" email address which turns out to be a "user unknown" at Earthlink.net.) Here's what the error message states:

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----other@mindspring.com
(reason: 550 other@mindspring.com...User unknown)
(expanded from: <alias@architect.com>)

The "other@mindspring.com" is the bad address; the "alias@architect.com" is the correct address.

I know about the .nk2 cache in Outlook 2002 and I have deleted the .nk2 file several times, but to no avail. (By the way, the "non-existent" bad email address is not in Outlook or on my PC anywhere and it does not appear when I type the client's email, that is, it is not evident from any autocomplete function; also, if I try typing the "non-existent" bad email address in the "To:" field of a new email, there is no recognition of the "non-existent" bad email address by Outlook. So, this apparently is NOT an autocomplete remainder email address, but a "non-existent" bad email address that is somehow stored in Outlook's files somewhere and used as the primary email address for my client's correct email address.

No matter what, I am simply unable to transmit an email to my client using its correct email address because the correct address keeps being converted to the bad email address.

Is there any other way to clear, correct, or remove the "non-existent" bad email address?

This part (edited for security reasons):

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors ----- other@mindspring.com

(reason: 550 other@mindspring.com...User unknown)

(expanded from: <alias@architect.com>)

Looks to me like the mail is being forwarded/redirected to the mindspring address by the domain.com server and the mindspring address is not correct.

The problem is not with your outlook, its with the recipients server configuration.

The reason I don't think it is at the recipient's end or at Mindspring/Earthlink is because I have a second computer configured exactly the same as the first one and when I send an email to my client with the second computer using the correct email address the email goes through and does not cause any error message or a redirection to a bad or unrecognized email address. If the problem was with the recipient's domain or server or if the problem was with Earthlink/mindspring it would seem likely that the problem would occur regardless of which computer I used. Because my client receives the emails I send with the second computer but not with the first I concluded that the issue has to do with my first computer and a bad email address that can't find or get rid of.

I also wanted to say that I am really baffled about being able to send emails with the correct address from each computer to my client and one is rejected and the other is not, although they appear to be exactly the same emails.

How can I find and remove the unknown user email? Or if it is a problem at the recipient's end why is the second computer email going through with the same email address that is rejected when sent with the first computer?

The bounce message indicates its the mail server is changing the address.

So its only happening on one computer? Does that computer use the same account and smtp server as the others? What antivirus do you use on that computer?

Yes all the way around. Both computers have Outlook using the same account with my earthlike domain hosting account. Smtp are set the same. Same norton 360 antivirus on both. They really are mirrors of each other. But really only happening on just one computer.

I'm stumped - unless the host file on the one computer is redirecting the smtp to the wrong server.
