Hi

A number of hosting companies allow you to download a free copy of Outlook (2007 in my case) when you configure an Exchange based email account. They also give a key, but stipulate that if the exchange email account is subsequently deleted, then Outlook license will not be valid.

This is reference to a post on Fasthosts.[h=3]Outlook Software Licence[/h]This software license is for use with yyyy@xxxx.co.uk only. If you delete this mailbox, the license will not be valid.

I presume they mean that it will keep working, but by the terms of the license you must only use it with this one account to which exchange was originally configured.

Correct, except for the word "only" - the license gives you the right to use it as long as you subscribe to the hosted account that provided it but it is not limited to using it only with that account. If you no longer subscribe to the hosted account, then you are supposed to stop using the software.

It is possible for Office updates to refuse to install (or genuine software checks to fail) if they void the product key you used for the install but otherwise, it will keep working. I don't know that anyone is checking this yet - and probably not for outlook 2007.

Office 365 is the service most likely to check for and prevent the software from working if the account was cancelled.
