When copying (copy/paste or drag ‘n’ drop) attached files from message to disk/server, the date is changing.

When using Save As on one attachment the original date is kept unaltered.

Performing Save As on several files simultaneously is not possible without changing names. Saving one by one file is not a solution since there is a huge amount of messages, with many attachments.

I need the attached files to have their original unaltered date and names when storing to disk. Please advice!

Try the following as a test, as I did:

Create 3 files.

Filename001.txt

Filename002.txt

Filename003.txt

Check the date and time. Mine were created 08:00

Send files as an attachment to your e-mail account.

Wait 5 minutes.

Save the files, by doing the following tests:

Test 1:

Right click on one attachment (Filename001.txt).

Choose Copy.

Paste to save to disk or server.

Check date and time (08:05)

Altered!

Test 2:

Right click on one attachment (Filename002.txt).

Choose Save As.

Choose the same location on disk or server.

Check date and time (08:00)

Unaltered!

Thanks for trying. Since we have people on the same project working in different companies and around the world, we cannot easily install anything on their systems.

The project files must not have altered dates/times unless there have been done some internal changes to the files themselves.

Every day our companies send and receive many e-mails, often with a minimum of 10 attachments. We therefore need help to easily and quickly find a shortcut or a workaround or some key combinations, to be able to get the attachments unaltered out of these e-mails.

Because you are copying and pasting, Outlook considers it a modification and uses Now as the Modified date. Created date is not affected.

Right click on one attachment and choose Save all attachments and you'll get the desired mod date.

(In the past, if you saved attachments, oh, from mail received more than 2 weeks ago, the date stamp would be 'now', not the received date. I forget if Windows 7 fixed that or Outlook. )

Thanks for replying.

It is a Norwegian Outlook. Part of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 on Microsoft Windows 7 Professional version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601

Right click gives, translated:

  • Preview
  • Open
  • Print
  • Save As
  • Remove
  • Copy
  • Select All
There is no Save All.

I feel a little embarrassed, almost stupid. I must admit that I have found the solution myself. Can’t tell and don’t know what really happened the first time. In case anyone else needs it:

  • Right click one attached file
  • Choose Select All
  • Right click again
  • Choose Save As
