Outlook connector only works when set to default

Hi Guys,

Hoping you can help; I use Outlook 2003 and have several email accounts on there including one using Outlook Connector - it was all working fine until I had to get a new PC and move everything across, now Outlook connector will only work if the Live account is set to the default account in Outlook. If it is not set to the default account I get the message; "Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook could not access the specified folder location" in my reading pane. Another strange thing is that connector is still bringing through email to the correct inbox as I can see the blue number change next to it. When it is set as default everything works fine, however, it is not my default account and I only use it for a couple of things.

I have tried deleting and re-installing several times, however, nothing seems to be working; so any help is gratefully received.

Did you make a new profile or move the old profile over?

Hi Diane, thanks for your reply. I did both; I moved everything across to my new computer using windows transfer, however, when my email didn't work I cleared all email files, deleted and re-installed office, and moved across only my POP3 accounts. I then downloaded the latest version of connector and signed into my live account using that - it took a while to download all of the folders and mail and was working fine until I closed and re-opened Outlook. I then found a fix stating that if you set the connector account to default it should sort the problem. I did this and it worked again, until I re-instated my main account as default.
 
You shouldn't need to do that. Try a new profile - go to control panel, search for Mail. Add the pop accounts and point it to use the old pst file(s), then add the Hotmail account.

Wouldn't a new profile had been created when I installed office from scratch the second time around? Many thanks for your help; however, I was hoping for a quick fix and was more wondering whether anyone had encountered the same problem.

With the amount of email accounts I'm running, going through and redoing all of the pst files again just to make connector work is unappealing to say the least lol

It's not too much of a biggie, my Live emails come through to my BlackBerry anyway, it was more of an annoyance than anything else that they wouldn't consistently arrive using Outlook.

No, installing office doesn't remove the profile.

You can test it with 2 accounts - create a new profile and keep the old one. Add one account, then the Hotmail then open the profile. Does it work as expected?
