Using categories in outlook with imap

I have a Pop3 (which shows the categories option) and an IMAP account which doesn't. Does that mean that it's not available with the IMAP account and, if so, is there a way that I can add a note to emails eg. details of a phone call which I made in response to the email that was received? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

IMAP servers don't support Outlook categories but there are ways you can add them to Outlook. In most cases, they won't sync to other outlook's that open the IMAP mailbox, but they should stick on the message in the mailbox where it was added. That said, for things like notes, drag it to the Calendar folder or Calendar button to create an appointment where you can add notes and won't risk losing them.
