No errors from BCM 2007 but can't see database

Hi: I've been connecting to a BCM 2007 database for the past few years with no issues. My laptop is running Windows 7, 64 bit and the "server" is running Windows XP. I am no longer able to see the BCM database from my laptop and no matter what I try (based on a Google search), nothing seems to work. I'm not receiving any errors and I know I'm physically connecting to the "Server" because I can ping the NetBIOS name. I have a feeling that a recent MS update has done me in, but I'm also not able to back up to an earlier restore point on the server. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
