As an example, I have many folders that I have created which are subfolders of "Contacts" as I have different list of contacts how I organize.

Someone showed me a macro that could open up a subfolder and here it is and it does not work.....the subfolder as an example is "Family"

Any way to create this perhaps?

Public Sub Test()

Dim fldContacts As Outlook.MAPIFolder

Set fldContacts = gnspNameSpace.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderContacts).Parent.Folders("Family")

End Sub

That code gets a folder at the same level as inbox and contacts, not a subfolder of contacts.

For contacts Family, you'd use

Set fldContacts = Session.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderCalendar).Folders("Family")

Working with VBA and non-default Outlook Folders

Thanks...i did the following in a module and when I run it the errror is an object can not be found

Public Sub Test()

Set fldContacts = Session.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderCalendar).Folders("Family")

End Sub

you forgot to dim the folder variable -

Dim fldContacts As Outlook.MAPIFolder

So this should open up the folder?

Public Sub Test()

Dim fldContacts As Outlook.MAPIFolder

Set fldContacts = Session.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderCalendar).Folders ("Family")

End Sub

Still the error....I changed to the following and no error but when I run it, it doesn't open up the folder....and I tried just taking out the word Contacts and it didn't do it......what am I missing please??

Public Sub Test()

Dim fldContacts As Outlook.MAPIFolder

Set fldContacts = Session.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderContacts).Folders ("Family")

End Sub

I looked into some of the other macros you gave me, and believe it or not I added the following and it opens up and shows the folder as I added the display concept

Public Sub Test()

Dim fldContacts As Outlook.MAPIFolder

Set fldContacts = Session.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderContacts).Folders("Family")

fldContacts.Display

End Sub

Yeah, sorry about that - once you 'select' the folder, you need to do something with it.

Thank you so much for your help. I very very much appreciate all you have done for me!!!

Very IMPORTANT!!! I have a few contact folders that are a subfolder of a subfolder....so if I have a subfolder of "Cousins" as a subfolder from the "Family" subfolder..... what do I change in the code that is working with subfolders so it open up a subfolder from a subfolder:

Public Sub(Test)
Dim fldContacts As Outlook.MAPIFolder
Set fldContacts = Session.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderContacts).Folders ("Family")
fldContacts.Display
End Sub

You'd just add more .folders("foldername") to the end.

As an FYI, I highly recommend using color categories over folders - all Family in one folder, the relationships by category. It's a little less clear cut for business - one for clients and one for colleagues/professionals - but generally speaking, fewer contact folder is better and easier to manage.

So is it:??

Public Sub Cousins_Folder()
Dim fldContacts As Outlook.MAPIFolder
Set fldContacts = Session.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderContacts).Folders("Family").Folders("Cousins")
fldContacts.Display
End Sub

Yes. Does it work?

Just did it and it does it!!! So what do you mean re recommending using color categories over folders.....what is that and how do I do it?

Update re the last question above as I did not understand what you said....And based on all you just showed me how to do, I created a Module and Userform with the comobobox that shows a list of the macros that opens up the folders....and then I creatd the runthis concept in the OutlookSession to run the macro of the Module, and then the script and comandbutton in the contact form, so when I click on the commandbutton in a contact, it shows the comobox of the macros to open folders, and I can just pick the folder to open up from the contact....I did it as the Personal side...and then will do it on the Business side....thanks so so much and let me know what you said above and what I should do with it...

You'd create a color category named for your folders then assign the category to all of the items in the folder then move them to the parent folder. Instead of switching folders to see everyone in that folder, you use a group by category view or a filter.
