In Outlook 2013 - the "From" name (the username) does not change even though I changed it in the Account Settings

I'm trying to change the user name that appears an email to be "From" (in other words, when the recipient views the email, the name that appears the email came from).

When I installed Outlook 2013, my default email account was the same I purchased the software with, i.e. mypersonalname@hotmail.com. Once installed, I added another email account (businessname@outlook.com). Apparently when I created businessname@outlook.com on the Outlook.com web app, I must have put mypersonalname in there somehow, because all emails from businessname@outlook.com appeared to the recipient as being from "Personal Name".

I was able to change the name successfully in the web app, on outlook.com. There, when I logged into outlook.com as businessname@outlook.com, went to account settings, I changed the user name from "Personal Name" to "Business Name", and when I send emails from the web app at outlook.com, the recipient sees "Business Name" as the email "From" perfectly.

But as likely expected (perhaps?), that didn't change the Outlook 2013 account info.

So when I went into the Outlook 2013 application, I selected Account Settings, Email Accounts, Email, highlighted businessname@outlook.com in the list of email accounts, click "Change", then the "Change Account" window opens where it says "Server Settings", User Information, Your Name:

When I change the account name in the "Your Name:" field from "Personal Name" to "Business Name", and I send an email from that account (again, insuring I select businessname@outlook.com to send from), it continues to show the recipient that the email came from "Personal Name". And this is after 24 hours (e.g many syncs of Send/Receive folders).

Again, just to be clear, I simply want my Outlook 2013 using my businessname@outlook.com account to work exactly like it successfully does now when sending email from the Outlook.com web app. I want the businessname@outlook.com account emails to show "Business Name".

As a side question, if I did a complete sync of folders, then deleted the businessname@outlook.com account in Outlook 2013 account settings, and then added it back in, would that perhaps fix the issue? Also, that would still insure that all of my email history saved on outlook.com under businessname@outlook.com would be brought down to the Outlook 2013 app, right?

I've never deleted an email account in Outlook, so I didn't want to try that until confirming it might be a fix (and safe, I assume).

Thanks for help in advance, I've spent many hours on Google looking for a solution with no success.

Re: Outlook2013 - "From" name doesn't change even when changed in Account Sett

Is businessname@outlook.com an alias address in the personal@hotmail account? At this time, you can't change the account name in Outlook - mail is always sent from the default account in outlook.com. You can change the default account in Outlook.com > More mail settings > Your email accounts > Default From address - outlook sends all mail from that address.

No, businessname@outlook.com is not an alias for any other account, including my personalname@hotmail.com account.

When I log into outlook.com as businessname@outlook.com, it only shows the following:

Account aliases

businessname@outlook.com (primary alias)

Also Outlook.com > More mail settings > Your email accounts shows only businessname@outlook.com as the Microsoft account, no accounts added, and no aliases

The primary alias for my personalname@hotmail.com account shows:

Account aliases

personalname@gmail.com (primary alias)

personalname@hotmail.com

For clarity, I have 5 email accounts configured in OL2013, each with different inboxes, folders, contact lists, etc. I have 3 gmails, 1 hotmail, and the businessname@outlook.com account. The businessname@outlook.com account is selected as the default account in OL2013.

The 4 other accounts in OL2013 work perfectly, and new emails to recipients show they are from the correct/different/respective email address (and the correct entry for the "Your Name" field, too).

But when sending email from the businessname@outlook.com account, the recipient literally sees the email as coming from "Personal Name <businessname@outlook.com>" even though the "Your Name" field in Account Settings > Email Accounts in OL2013 has been changed from "Personal Name" to "Business Name".

Thanks

Re: Outlook2013 - "From" name doesn't change even when changed in Account Sett

It picks the name from the account settings online. When i changed my display name online at account.live.com, it "took" right away and Outlook uses it.

It does not pick up the name setting in Outlook's File, Account Setting, double click on account.

If the display name is correct at account.live.com (and it sounds like it is), test it with a new profile with only the problem account - don't delete your current profile, but create a second one to check the display name.

Outlook2013 - "From" name doesn't change even when changed in Account Settings

Creating a new profile with the businessname@outlook.com email address appears to work.

I've added the other four email accounts to the profile, they work, so all is good.

Looks like all emails sync'd fine in the 5 accounts.

Shouldn't be a problem deleting the old profile, is there?

Not sure what the problem was, but thanks for your help in resolving it with the workaround.

It's great appreciated.

Now it's on to building new profiles for all the rest of the systems in the office so they'll work correctly.

Thanks again.
