The Formatting Changes When A Recurring Appointment is Changed

Good morning.

I have two users who have a formatting issues. They create recurring appointments in Outlook 2010 (32 bit). They look like normal appointments. If the appointments are modified, the original formatting then looks like this:

Does anyone have any idea what could cause this?

It looks like the body is being converted from RTF to plain text. Are they syncing with a smartphone?
