I am brandnew to outlook. I have noticed that outllook automatically deleted my "deleted items" after 2 weeks. My provider is charter. Is there a way to prevent this? I understand I can create a new folder and just move the mails there but I would just like to understand the workings. Also what exactly does purging mean, sorry i did search but could not find a noob definition.

Purging = Delete. Because IMAP is a server based account, they use the term purge instead of delete.

Many mail servers will automatically delete older messages that are in the deleted folder or junk mail - you might be able to change it if you log onto your webmail.

Thank you Diane! I also see a "deleted" and "trash" folder in outlook. Do you know the difference in these?

Trash should be the imap's default folder and assuming it's 'deleted items', it's what outlook created. Which one is outlook using? if it's really just 'deleted' then I'm not totally sure...
