Thanks Diane!, however, is not useful when the MailItem is changed to another folder, because it changes

There's no perfect solution. The EntryID is unique but changes. The SearchKey doesn't change but isn't guaranteed to be unique as it's copied, too, if you copy the item. This also applies to any ID you'd create yourself.
