How do I purge (expunge) just ONE message from ONE folder? Outlook seems to have an "all or nothing" approach to this action. Seems like a legitimate expectation from this user's perspective.
This is with an IMAP account? Shift+Delete will permanently delete messages - it should work on IMAP too, but that can depend on the settings in file, account settings, double click on account, then more settings, advanced.

Check the settings in File, Account Settings, double click on account, then more settings, advanced - if you use purge items it should move them to trash, while mark for deletion is the old imap behavior of marking them in place.
