I set up the Office 365 Home subscription in order to have a decent way to keep all of my devices in sync. When I set it up the system allowed me to connect my email address and account at pobox.com that I have used since 1997 as my only alias. That email address became my login address and my problem was solved. I was extremely happy that I would not have to change my email address or have one imap account in my Outlook profile for email and the outlook.com account for contacts and calendar. I was even able to continue to set up outlook.com to use my pobox smtp server to send mail (which automatically whitelists the email address I am sending to on for my spam filter). I was a happy camper and willing to PAY $99 a year in addition to the $50 a year I pay pobox.com.

However, when Microsoft transitioned my outlook.com to the Outlook Mail last week, I lost the ability to sync Outlook 2016 to the account using that email address. I can login via the web. But I cannot sync mail, calendar or contacts. My Outlook Android does not sync either. It does not give an error message. It just says on the bottom "This folder last updated on [a recent time] [triangle with !] Trying to connect ....."

Any ideas about being able to setup a connection to the new Outlook.com

you need to add an Outlook.com alias to your account then use auto account setup to add the account to outlook as an exchange account. on the device, you can use the outlook.com alias or set it up manually using eas.outlook.com as the server address.
i have a video here - it uses the old server address and you'll need eas.outlook.com on with the new server.

Thanks, I was able to add the account using an outlook.com alias. However, I am no longer able to send email from Outlook 2016 and Outlook for Android account using my primary non-outlook email address of almost 20 years. The mail goes out with the outlook.com email address. I have no interest in changing my email.

I have figured out a workaround: create a second IMAP account for email and use that as default email then use the outlook.com account as the default database to sync calendar and contacts.

It is just frustrating because it was working perfectly (except for the fact that you can't edit contacts on the Android device) before: one Outlook 2016 and Android account for everything.
Thanks again.

It should send in outlook 2016, but with a goofy outlook address. if you add it as a connected account, you can send from it, but it will be from the outlook.com account on behalf of the non-ms address.

on the droid, you'll need the imap account as it doesn't handle aliases.
