Outlook version
Outlook 2016 32 bit
Email Account
IMAP
This was working perfectly for me a few months ago and then it just suddenly quit. Nothing shows up under the people pane at all, just a message that says "There are no items to show in this view.". I thought maybe the issue was related to an update, so I completely reformatted my hard drive and re-installed office and still the problem persists. I am running Office 365 with Outlook 2016 32 bit (not exchange server) and my system is a Dell XPS laptop running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. This is what I have tried so far and none of these things have worked:

  • Reformatted hard drive and reinstalled office
  • Created new profile
  • Rebuilt Index
  • Created a new String value: RunOSC = 1 In: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\SocialConnector
  • Created a new DWORD value: MatchContactOnSenderAddress =1 In: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\SocialConnector

I need this feature for my work so any help would be greatly appreciated.

it doesn't work here either - i know they deprecated it and are discouraging its use. They are making changes to the search engine which could affect it. I'm guessing a recent update to office broke it. You could try rolling back to an older outlook version and see if it comes back.

Uninstall Updates in Office 'Click to Run'

The version # are here - Version and build numbers of update channel releases - Office Support - get the one released before it stopped working.

Thank you for taking the time to respond! If they are discouraging it's use then it makes me wonder if they will eventually do away with the feature. :( Such a shame as it has been a wonderful tool!

I was thinking to upgrade from 2003 to 2016, but now I won't. Thanks for the update. I love this feature - it is quite useful for me and I don't want it to go away.

That is the plan, but i don't know when it will be removed for good. It's possible this is just a temp glitch and will be fixed in an update. I'll see what i can find out. (Might be a week or so, due to the US thanksgiving holiday)

The people pane still works - they fixed the search part, so it finds messages from the sender.

As per my experience, 2016 is far better than 2003. Too many enhancements and features. I would suggest you to try it once and if you don't like it , you can always roll back to 2003.

The people pane is working again and as far as I know, will continue to work - but is disabled by default.

Much obliged to you for setting aside the effort to react If they are disheartening it is utilize then it makes me wonder on the off chance that they will in the long run get rid of the component.

that was then... this is now. It's working in the current versions - Outlook 2019/365.

You can turn it on in the View tab, People Pane menu. If the pane is Normal or Minimized, you can expand and collapse it using the caret icons on the top right of the pane.

The people pane is being disabled and removed from outlook - Its disabled in the subscription version since a couple of months ago. I believe its also disabled in 2019, it should be disabled in 2016 consumer version - but not in volume licenses.
