Yes, the organiser is inviting the recipient. The recipient is a delegate of the sender, but the recipient has no delegates - which is why the Outlook message is puzzling her.

Thankyou for the response. We don't use POP3 so that can be discounted in this case. The shared mailbox is accessed as an additional mailbox from Outlook.
If one or more of the users have their Outlook client set to use cached mode could that be the reason?
