To add a bit to the above. Yahoo does provide for IMAP, they just don't advertise it. The settings I use are:
imap.mail.yahoo.com
smtp.mail.yahoo.com
incoming server: SSL/993
outgoing server: SSL/465
One can choose where the IMAP .pst file goes initially. Modify the registry...
Thanks, it is making progress. But it's not yet the way I'd like.
I deleted the old profile (Control panel->Mail), deleted the old .pst files, and started Outlook. I named a new profile (named Main) and created my two IMAP accounts (Yahoo and Google). But now there are 3 .pst files:
