OK, a little progress. I can now find what I was looking for - with your " subject:* " etc suggestions. Is there somewhere can I find instructions about using search (and other Outlook features)? Could save me (and you) a lot of time!
Outlook can do a lot of amazing things but the complexity...
Amnesia! Just saw an earlier post from Jan 2019. It seems that most of the time I am not looking for words/letters that trigger a total listing of all items in calendar just every 10-11 months! Someone with more authority should just tell me to get over it.

My last name is X, doctor's last name is X. Looking for past appointments in the calendar for X yields all entries in calendar including entries that do not contain X in them. I suspect this is because my calendar name contains X? Or maybe not.
Is there some search function that can be changed...
I will try again.
I try to do a simple search by typing "step" after indexing in the Day/Week/Month view. The results show up with 1798 items and the Current View becomes All Appointments. I do not try to narrow the search or check body. The instant search works as long as I do not enter the...
I am not quite sure of your question: Each of the different sections of Outlook has a search dialog box (with the magnifying glass icon) at the top of the window. That is what I understand as the 'instant search.' All sections of the Instant Search work excepting the Calendar. That works EXCEPT...
The Calendar Instant Search seems to work for all words/letter combinations except for any letters that start with my first or last name which then renders 200 including a warning that I should "narrow my search." Clicking on the warning yield 1798 items AND indicates that the Current View is...

Well, my mistake. Just noticed that the top of the application (toolbar space?) said "safe mode". Closed program, re-opened it and seems to be OK, except for the fonts in email and maybe elsewhere.
Computer refused to come back to life after sleeping. Forced reboot twice to get back to normal(?). There was error message (do not remember exact warning) starting up Outlook. Now font settings have changed in most of parts. Emails do not load all info (graphics) when reading in either mode...
Thank you! It never ceases to amaze me how complicated and obscure Outlook is. I come from InfoCentral, if you know what that is/was, which was complicated in its own way but ultimately accessible and malleable to ones way of working.
I have contacts showing up as Address Cards as a default view. I can enter text on any of the cards which then shows up on the contact dialog box. Why is that? Can I configure Outlook to prevent that? When I enter text in this mode it is only by accident. If I want to change something in a...
Not persistent. View is Business card. I reset view (and did other poking around) and still reverts to alphabetic order if I go to Calendar or Mail, etc when I come back to Contacts.
So, some other gremlin seems to be lurking?
Yes, I have it open and I do use it a little - never thought of using it to navigate between dates. Creature of (bad) habit. Will try that.
I have the same complaint about contacts reverting to alphabetic order, but I suspect if I ask a similar question about that I will get a similar answer, so...
Ah, consistency, the hobgoblin of little minds!
Oh well, I'll try opening the calendar in a new window and see how I acclimate, but, already, too many windows open.
Many thanks
If I look at a week in the future or past, go to contacts, come back to calendar, the view reverts back to this week. I want to make Outlook calendar stay in the week in which I am working until I am finished, not what Outlook thinks is best.
Is there a way to make the calendar date stay in the...
