Different poster here: I have this problem and adding it to Public Folder favorites was what did the trick for me. Do not add the calendar using the address book, browse PF and make it a favorite and that fixes the issue.

Is your point then that Outlook 2010 may not allow searching using it's native search box when the PST archive is selected/opened but instead the user will only be able to search using windows 7 content search via the start button?
I'll test that but I doubt it...
I'm having a hard time finding a straight answer to this question: it appears that outlook 2010 will not search PST files unless the client is in cached mode. (My server is exchange 2003 SP2 FWIW)
