Contact list didn't download

I've downloaded Microsoft 365 to my wife's secondary laptop, and all went well till I opened the contacts. To my great dismay, there was none. I downloaded Outlook to my computer after I did a Reset and everything was there including my contacts.
My question is, why didn't the contacts download on that computer as they did mine and is there a way to get them to download in order to relieve this great stress.
 
Sounds like your Outlook Contacts were still on your computer from before (likely, saved locally in a .PST or .OST file). So, after you re-installed Microsoft Office, they appeared.

If you want hers to appear ... I suggest you find them on her old laptop. Once you do that, we can help you get that file-or-set over to her new laptop.

The email-accounts (that you are setting up) ... they typically only download email ... send and receive email.
 
Interesting, and thank you for the reply. First, the old(er) computer was reformatted and thus, started over from scratch. It's this old(er) laptop where I downloaded Microsoft Office 365. All the email came down perfectly, but there was nothing in the contact list.
I've done the same with my own laptop, and when Outlook (Microsoft Office 365) downloaded, everything was there as it was previously, including the contact list.
Therefore, my question is, can I re-download Outlook and somehow get her contact list with it. They are there of course on her new laptop, but it's this older one which caused grief with nothing in the contact list. Please give instruction how I can get that contact list on the old(er) computer. Thanks.
 
AFAIK, even with Office-365 ... your actual Contacts are saved on the local computer (that it is installed on).

Since you (strangely) already erased her old laptop, you should now access the Backup you took of it (before you erased it).

You copy those files to the her new computer. Basically, you are cloning-them, and using them as the basis or starting-point for her new install.
 
It wasn't strange I erased her old laptop, since that unit that wasn't hers, but mine. Plus I hadn't used it for several years, so I reformatted it and set up her accounts on it since her laptop was sent away for service.
Secondly, I didn't take a backup off it since it was not her machine.
Her laptop was never erased, even when sent in for service for the broken hinge on the screen.
So, my question remails. After formatting the old laptop, and reinstalling Windows and then her accounts, I downloaded her Outlook (Microsoft Office 365) onto the old reformatted laptop, and everything downloaded normally, including all her email. BUT, the contacts did not come down the pipes. My question then is why?
As said, I've downloaded Outlook several times to my own laptop over the past several years, and the contacts came down with it. So if it came down to one, why did not her Outlook download with her contacts?

Who is your email host? If Outlook.com, the contacts are in the mailbox. But if pop or imap, they are in the data file. If you did not export and back them up before reformatting they are gone. Sorry.
 
Imap/smtp on my wife's computer. Those contacts did not download so as you say, they are vamooshed.


On my system, Outlook.com / gmail/ hotmail/ exchange/ imap/smtp.
My contacts downloaded. My question remains... why did these download even though I also use imap/smtp?
