I am using outlook 2003 for my gmail account on windows 11 Home.
2 factor authentication is on / active.
Outlook 2003 is configured with the POP protocol and uses an app password.
This was working fine until around August this year, when it suddenly stopped.
There was no fundamental change to my system's settings.
I regularly apply Microsoft updates but have no idea if these could be a factor.
I have deleted the existing email account and tried every possible combination of
settings, including a new app password, in an attempt to recover the email account,
all to no avail. Logging onto the SMPT server fails (doesn't recognise my password or username)
and I constantly get a dialog box asking for my username.
After extensive internet trawling and stories of MS pulling the plug on POP
I still have no clear idea whether Outlook 2003 really should, or should not work
with appropriate settings for 2 factor authentication and an app password.
I have seen similar posts to this one but there seems to be no definitive answer to the problem.
Every other aspect of Office 2003 works fine, leading me to think I'm fighting external intervention.
Has any body found a solution that works???
