Hi everybody,

Is it possible in exchange to restrict the number of recipients of messages?

Thankyou in advance!

We actually use Novell GroupWise 7, and just want to know if the newer

version of Exchange does it.

Thankyou!!

Yes, you can set a max recipient number.

It does with some very important caveats.

In Exchange 2003, Distribution lists were expanded and the membership

count of the list wascounted against that max count. IOW, if a list

had 300 members, that number was counted in the max recipient count.

In Exhcange 2007, that is no longer the case ( reverting back to 5.5

behavior), a DL is counted as 1 recipient. ( Unless the user expands

the list in Outlook).

And about local groups, does it understand as 1 recipient or not?

You mean Personal Distr Lists in Outlook?

Not sure, but I would assume it would treat as 1 in 2007.

I don't think so. Outlook expands the group (if it's in the mailbox's

Contacts folder) so Exchange sees individual recipients.

Sure. You can even restrict just certain individuals to sending to

some maximum number of recipients.
