Backup and restore E2K7 with Server2K8

Hi,

I've a question regarding backup of exchange 2K7 on Windows 2k8. I'm

actually using E2K7 on Windows Server 2K3 with the old backup tool which is

working fine

I'm thinking about upgrading my server to Windows 2K8, but if i do it, will

i still be able to backup and restore exchange with Windows Server Backup

tool ?

I've read many article over internet which said it's not possible to do it

and that you need to buy a third party software...

Can anyone give me informations about that ?

Windows Backup does not ship with Windows 2008 any more. You could install

the Exchange 2003 Management Tools on a Windows 2003 server and use NTBACKUP

on that server to back up your Exchange 2007 server.

You can install the NTBackup Restore utility on the 2008 server so you

can restore from your old backups.

As the Exchange Team's blog indicates in Andrew's post, you won't yet

be able to do the full backup like you could on 2003 server.

I would recommend that you take a look at StorageCraft's ShadowProtect

which will let you take 15 minute differentials of your database and

logs. You can then enable circular logging to prevent the drives from

overflowing with logs.

well, actually i think the old backup tool can still work as long as it is in the windows system.

but according to my experience, windows built in utilities sometimes are not so easy to use.

i've been using some third party server backup tools, such as easus todo backup, acronis backup and recovery, paragon drive backup.

easus is good both in features and price.

acronis is the best but too expensive for small business users.

paragon drive backup is not so reliable.

you can try them out.according to my experience, windows built in utilities sometimes are not so easy to use.
