I use Outllook as my email client, mainly because it syncs with my phone.
I tend to leave it open in the background whilst doing other things. All
normal so far?

Everytime it 'pages' ( my expression but I'm sure everyone will know what I
mean) and checks for email on my accounts ( I have several) every other
program (including Outlook) stops. I may be typing or anything, 'focus' goes
from the program I am working with and does not return until its finished.
This frequently results in lost words and many other errors.
Why is this happening? My PC is quite powerful. Dual core CPU 3500+, no less
than 4GB of RAM.
Surely it should tick away in the background leaving me alone with other work?
Thanks
Peter

How many email accounts, what type, and are some on the same server? Do you
have all updates installed for it?

And do you have intergrated anti virus with outlook, and how often (time
scale) is it checking for mail

Hi,

I have about 6 email accounts, all are active. It checks every 10 minutes,
but I receive emails more often. ( I am saying I really should check more
often than 10 mins).
I have MacAfee installed. It came with my broadband.
Some are on the same actual server, but different domains. One is hotmail,
the others are either POP or IMAP. However this was happening before I
Introduced the IMAP accounts.
All updates are installed.
Thanks
Peter

Is McAfee checking your email? If so, disable that feature as it
provides no additional protection and can cause problems like what
you're experiencing.

If McAfee is intergrated with Outlook, ie scans incoming & outgoing
uninstall McAfee, reboot. Reinstall McAfee without the outlook intergration.
You dont want to set your polling interval (auto send /receive) for less
than 10 mins as it can cause resource problems

1. No you shouldn't check mail more often. That has the potential to cause
problems if you check mail while outlook is still checking.

2. Is mcafee scanning email? that will cause issues in outlook.

3. outlook limits the number of open connections to one server, so too many
accounts or too many subscribed imap folders can cause it to 'hang' as it
waits for access.
