Outlook Connector - Hotmail (Plus) not in sync between computers

I hope the subject line describes the problem. I think it occurs when I move

messages from a Hotmail folder to a local folder (pst) on one computer. The

e-mails are gone from the Hotmail folder on the computer where I move the

message(s), but they don't get "deleted" on the Hotmail server and thus

aren't deleted in Outlook on any other computer accessing the account -- true?

Before having to switch to the Connector, this was definitely not the case.

Moving a message from a Hotmail folder to a local pst deleted the message in

Hotmail online and subsequently on my other computer.

Am I correct about the behavior, and if I am, any ideas how to work around?

I am basically wanting to manually "archive" messages (the Outlook archive

function almost never works for me since it uses the "modified" date rather

than the "created" date, and so many things seem to "modify" a message).

I don't think you are correct; especially if using "HTTPMail". The

"HTTPMail" used to use the "WebDAV" protocol, and would synchronize all

account folders to the server folders. Whatever was on the server would be

on all computers using an HTTPMail client. The only way to cause email to be

removed from the servers, and thus from access by any other HTTPMail client

is to move the email from an account folder to a local folder; i.e., a

folder which is not listed under the account folder tree, but a local

storage folder tree.

If you use the connector they should be deleted from the server when they

are moved to a new pst, but it won't happen until the next mail pass. They

will then be removed from the other computer.

I'm having the exact same problem...I've manually deleted the emails...but

still it didn't continue to work. So i've decided to remove the account and

start all over...i think this new change with outlook connector has finally

convinced me to move away from hotmail...have had a gmail account, but never

used it as primary...now that it can interface to outlook, i think it's time

to make the switch. cause this is just plain stupid for it not to work all

of a sudden.

Did you uninstall the connector and reinstall it?

I didn't follow up onthis thread because it starting working as expected -

moving from a Hotmail folder to a local folder would remove the file from the

Hotmail server (and thus from all clients accessing via the Outlook

Connector). Now it's not working again. I guess I thought I did something

brilliant to "fix" it, only to discover that maybe the problem is just

intermittent. So I'm again asking if anyone knows how to fix this.

RE: Outlook Connector - Hotmail (Plus) not in sync between compute

OK, I just did this: I moved a group of messages from a Hotmail folder to a

local folder using the menu command (Edit/Move to folder). I then did a

Send/Receive and saw may account button flash in Outlook that some action on

the server had been taken with respect to 28 messages. Went to Hotmail

online and the messages were still in the Hotmail folder. Went to another

computer connected to my Hotmail account via the Connector and they were also

still in the folder there, even after doing a send / receive (no surprise

if they show up online I'm not sure how they could appear to be moved on

another computer). I then did a similar experiment on the second computer

with a different group of messages, but highlighed and dragged to the local

folder instead of using the menu command. Similar results. I then went back

to the first computer and, highlighting a third group of messages, did

Edit/Cut and then went to my local folder and did edit/paste. That worked

the way I expected -- after Send/Receive, they were instantly gone from the

folder viewing it on the web. Went to the other computer, did send/receive,

and they were also gone there. It seems that "moving," either by using the

menu command or by dragging to an offline folder, doesn't work, but cut and

paste does. Can anyone confirm and explain why? Thanks...

Either move, drag or cut should work. Which version of Outlook? I'll try to

repro and file a report on it if I do.

Re: Outlook Connector - Hotmail (Plus) not in sync between compute

Sorry, for some reason I am not getting e-mail notifications on this thread

even though I requested them, so I didn't think anyone had responded to my

last post. I am using Outlook 2007. This morning I tried to move some

messages to a local folder using my method that "worked" (cut / paste using

the menu), did a send / receive, saw the "deleted messages" update flashing

on the Outlook Connector toolbar, but the "moved" messages were still in

Hotmail when I went to view it on the web. Any further thoughts? Does this

work for anyone else?

Re: Outlook Connector - Hotmail (Plus) not in sync between compute

I have the same PITA problem. Why did this have to be "fixed" as it was

never broken? I can no longer simply move email from my Hotmail Inbox to a

folder in my Personal Files PST and have the email in my Hotmail account go

away. I always thought when you "MOVED" it meant you LEFT the old location

and took up residence at the NEW location. Right now it just copies the

email to the PST but doesn't move from the Hotmail account. As it stands now

I have to go back and verify the selected Hotmail actually copied to the PST

and then manually delete the email out of Hotmail! What a colossal PITA!!!

Re: Outlook Connector - Hotmail (Plus) not in sync between compute

I am also having the problem of outlook not sync-ing with my hotmail. I can

delete messages in my outlook but now in this "post-Connector" world, they

are *not* deleted from my hotmail account.

Why must Microsoft continue to "fix" problems that aren't problems?? Is

there anything I can do to encourage outlook and hotmail to sync?
