My wife has had to buy a second hand computer. It is running OE6 with Windows XP. When she uses spell checking it suggests French spelling corrections.

In OE Tools>Options>Spelling>Language only French is showing in the drop down menu.
In C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MODI\12.0 there are ENGLISH.LNG, FRENCH.LNG and SPANISH.LNG files. There are no other .LNG files in the system. There are also ENDIC.DAT and ENGIDX.DAT in 12.0
In my computer, the only difference is that the .LNG and .DAT files are in 11.0 and I get all the options in my drop down menu.

Is there somewhere else I should be looking to see why only French shows up in my wife's OE?

Only having French spell checker is caused by an Outlook update. It cannot
be fixed to use a Microsoft checker.
There are free spell checkers that can be downloaded. There was one
mentioned for Australian English. Someone else will have to post the latest
recommendation.

You no longer have spell checking capabilities in some languages in Outlook
Express 6.0 after you install the 2007 Microsoft Office system:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932974

Outlook Express cannot use the MS Word spell check in Office 2007.
Downloading a free spell check is the simplest way around this.

Vampirefo Spell Check.

Download it from Major Geeks:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2952

Or download it from SnapFile:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/spelloe.html

Or you may like TinySpell. (Checks the spelling as you type).

Download it here:
http://www.tinyspell.m6.net/

Australian English Spell Check
(Also suitable for other English speaking countries.)

If you have a previous version of Office, see this:
