My default browser is Firefox.

I was playing with customising the Outlook toolbar and find that if I use

the search icon - BING opens in the outlook window and the links stay in

the window.

However, if I use the browser command, Firefox proper opens.

Is there a way of keeping the browser in Outlook?

You really should not use Outlook as an Internet Browser. Support for

displaying web pages is actually only meant for the Home Folder feature and

the Web Toolbar is mainly used for web references to Outlook folders. The

Web Toolbar has been removed from Outlook 2010 and developing new solutions

which rely on the Home Folders feature is discouraged and some support for

it has been marked as deprecated already.

If you want to browse the web; use a proper browser ;-)

The "Web toolbar" was not just for browsing, which indeed doesn't make sense in Outlook. However, the "Web toolbar" was very useful to identify the path for Outlook folders (for example, outlook:Active\Cases\Case26we6351). Even in Outlook 2010, the functionality for identifying folder is weak. You need to use a third party product like Speedfiler or Simplyfile to help find folders if you have more than a few and need to properly file away emails. This is very disappointing that rather than improve this area, MS has chosen to remove the little functionality that it had.

catherized, you might want to check out the "Simplyfile" app as it really helps with filing email. It's not free, but I have hundreds of folders and find it really helps a lot. I used to use "Speedfiler" which is also good, but has trouble with Outlook 2010. You can make it work with a registry edit, but for the money, Simplyfile is a far better product.
